I work with Linux systems, servers, and infrastructure — and I'm steadily moving deeper into automation, containerization, and cloud technologies. Most of what I know started with a real problem on a real server.

A bit of context

I'm Kiệt — a systems engineer in my early twenties, based in Ho Chi Minh City. I studied Information Technology at Ho Chi Minh City Open University and moved into Linux system administration early on. My day-to-day involves working with production-like Linux environments: managing services, troubleshooting server issues, handling storage, networking, and keeping things running.

I'm not someone who came to infrastructure from the application side. I started close to the machines — terminals, logs, config files, boot problems — and I'm gradually expanding outward toward automation, containers, CI/CD, and cloud infrastructure.

Outside infrastructure, I train consistently at the gym and keep working on improving myself — technically and otherwise. I'm also actively improving my technical English and professional communication.

Where I am now

Linux / System Engineer

~1.5 years of practical system and infrastructure experience

Working with Linux servers in a production-like environment. Day-to-day responsibilities include system administration, service management, storage and networking configuration, troubleshooting, monitoring, and supporting infrastructure operations.

Now → Next

DevOps / Cloud / Infrastructure Engineering

Building deeper skills in containers, CI/CD, Kubernetes, monitoring, and cloud infrastructure. This is where I'm heading.

Real systems, real problems

Most of my experience comes from working with actual infrastructure rather than only following tutorials. I've dealt with production-like server environments, legacy migrations, hardware issues, and the kind of problems that don't have a clean Stack Overflow answer.

Things I've built and worked on

Infrastructure

CentOS 6 → Rocky Linux 8.9 Migration

Worked on migrating a legacy CentOS 6 server environment to Rocky Linux 8.9. This involved filesystem migration with rsync and tar, user and group migration, handling mounted storage and permissions, dealing with legacy init systems, DRBD-related issues, and recovering services including Elasticsearch.

What it taught me

Practical exposure to legacy infrastructure migration and the complexity of keeping services, users, permissions, and storage consistent across operating systems. There's no "clean" migration — every real system has edge cases.

Infrastructure Lab

End-to-End Infrastructure Lab

Built a lab environment using VMware to understand infrastructure architecture from network edge to database. The setup includes pfSense for firewall/routing, HAProxy for load balancing, application servers, and a database backend — all running on virtual machines with Linux.

What it taught me

Understanding how traffic flows from the internet through firewalls, load balancers, and application layers. Building this from scratch gave me a much clearer picture of infrastructure architecture.

Full Stack

Next.js E-Commerce Application

Worked with Next.js, Node.js, and Tailwind CSS to build a full-stack e-commerce application. Explored frontend/backend concepts and Docker-related deployment workflows.

What it taught me

Understanding enough application development to better operate and deploy applications as a systems/DevOps engineer. Knowing what the application needs makes infrastructure decisions clearer.
